MAJOR ATTRACTIONS SUB adds Cowsills to series
Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the Major Attraction Series sponsored five concerts while the Buckinghams were paid through a Homecoming allocation. In addition to the series, the Student Union Board contracted the Cowsills who performed to one of the largest crowds of the year. Crowds varied in size at the different events and included all age groups, but the contemporary music groups captured the largest student audience of the year.

The Cowsills at E.M.C.
In what was to be the last performance by 'big name' entertainment at EMC, The Cowsills and the Original Caste appeared in concert during Homecoming. The Original Caste, a Canadian group, began the evening with several popular folk tunes and their own compositions. Their music was generally soft and relaxing; they included their hit, "One Tin Soldier" and John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane," and closed with "A Simple Song of Freedom."
Then on came the Cowsills, flashbulbs burst. High points of their performance were a rendition of the Rolling Stone's, "Honky-Tonk Woman" and the drummer's imitation of Johnny Cash. The audience responded enthusiastically to other songs by the Beatles, Mamas and Papas, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cowsill style. The group showed much versatility, reflecting the mood of the times through music. "Let It Be" received a standing ovation.
|
|
. . . A concert by The Cowsills and The Original Caste Friday night was the highlight of the 1970 homecoming. The Original Caste in their warm-up performance received a fantastic applause from the audience. The six members of the Cowsills family followed with another great showing of musical talent. . . .

A talented family of musicians, the Cowsills entertained the students with their contemporary performance. Artist Series LeTourneau College hosts outstanding artists each year for the benefit of the students and the public. Coordinated by the Student Activities Committee, the artists series provides students with improved cultural background and social opportunity. among the guests this year were the Cowsills and the National Shakespeare Company, which presented "Twelfth Night" and "Romeo and Juliet." Also visiting campus were Vietnamese diplomat Tran Van Dinh and illusionist Andre Kole of Campus Crusade for Chirst.

The Cowsills, the popular MGM recording group that also happens to be a family enterprise performed here in October.
The Cowsill's performance was sponsored by the Student Union to give SWT students an opportunity to hear the popular recording group.
The Cowsill's broke into the nation's musical consciousness in June of 1967 when their first million seller "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" was issued.
With family musical groups recently becoming so popular perhaps the Cowsills were not as novel as once, but their sound was an appealing attraction for students here.

Appearing for the first time in El Paso the Cowsills made their debut in the Burges gym Dec. 14. Tickets sold for $2 and profits went to purchase new lights and fixtures for the stage. The singing group boasts six members: four brothers, one sister and their mother. They have appeared on many variety and talk shows and recorded many hit songs in the past few years. Whether lack of interest or flat wallets, less than 500 students attended the concert, disappointing not only the sponsors of the show, but also the Cowsills.

Hit musical groups head Harding bill of entertainment
Bringing a wide diversity of entertainment to the Harding stage, the lyceum series provided students with an opportunity to hear celebrities and noted musical groups without paying a high price.
Famous name performers highlighted the program. For the college's Christmas party, the Cowsill family presented a variety of styles in their show. Kenny Rogers and the First Edition gave listeners a heavy, hard sound as they performed their golden record hits.
