The Cowsills Should Be In
The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame !!!

and here's why.....

1. Their talent, of course. As self taught musicians, they rose to national levels and all a very young ages. Their talent was far above their age. I remember thinking, after not listening to them for a few years, "They were probably good by a child's standards, but not an adult's." One re-listen back in the early 90's proved that statement wrong. Their talent - then and now - stands alone.

2. They were the first of the Rock & Roll family groups. Before the teen magazines featured the Jackson Five, The Osmonds, or The DeFranco Family, The Cowsills were out there and won hearts.

3. They were one of the first - if not THE first - celebrity to win a million dollar advertising contract when they signed on with the American Dairy Association.

4. They were the original GOT MILK folks with the milk mustaches, a marketing scheme that still stands 30 plus years later.

5. They had hits that were not only symbols of the times, but songs that still show up in pop culture 30 plus years later. The Rain, The Park and Other Things has been used in current movies and is forever a sign of the 60's being 'The Flower Girl' song. Hair also has been heard in numerous commercial endeavors.

6. What other group can say they were banned in Viet Nam? Yes, the "bubblegum" Cowsills were banned by Armed Services Radio from being played in Viet Nam because of the parody of the Star Spangled Banner section of the song Hair.

7. The Cowsills inspired a hit TV show that ran for four years. The Monkees, in contrast, only ran for two years.

8. They had a fan club in the hundreds of thousands (and you must consider we're talking that late 60's). The fan club also was unique in the starting of the pen pal program, as well as the slam books.

9. I can't think of another group that can say their Mom and six siblings were all teen idols.

10. Over the years, the Cowsills have worked with many great musicians in various musical styles. From Susan with pop music's Hootie and the Blowfish, to John and Bob's Gospel, to Bill's DEEP country roots. The various members of The Cowsills have worked with Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Helen Ready, John Denver, Jan & Dean, The Beach Boys, Eddie Arnold, Chuck Plotkin and a million more.

11. The Cowsills were the first top 10 group to record a theme for a TV show. They recorded Love, American Style in 1969.

And I'm sure there are many more reasons !!
