The 2-million-selling record "Hair" will be one selection played Sunday by the singing family "The Cowsills" at Our Lady of the Lake College.
The Halloween show is a benefit to raise money for a dining room for St. John Bosco School. The performance is at 3 p.m. in Thiry Auditorium n the OLL campus.
"The Cowsills" became well-known long before their hit with "Hair." After playing on a local basis in their home of Newport, Rhode Island, the brothers in the group convinced their mother, Barbara to join them.
They made a demonstration record "The Rain, The Park and Other Things," signed a contract with MGM rcords, and then saw that record sell more than a million copies.
After a single and album "We Can Fly," young Susan Cowsill joined the group in time to record "Indian Lake" which became "The Cowsills" second million-seller. After four albums, the family found their biggest success in "Hair," the song from the theater production of the same name. "Hair" sold more than 2 million copies.
The children in the group are Bob, 21; Paul, 19; Barry, 16, John, 14; and Susan, 11. Bill who founded the group with Bob, is now producing records and performing on his own.
"The Cowsills" have also become familiar to many television viewers, and hav been enjoyed by club and concert audiences of all ages.
Tickets for the benefit show are $2 and are available at the door.
