Cowsill was 7 in 1966 when her family band, The Cowsills, began to find chart success and would go on to become the real-life inspiration for the Partridge Family. She remained relatively quiet throughout much of the following two decades before re-emerging in the 1990s as an in-demand background singer for acts such as Hootie & the Blowfish and the Smithereens. Around that time she relocated to New Orleans, where she became a local legend within the city's insular music scene performing with the Continental Drifters. She didn't release her first proper solo album until early last year at age 45, but "Just Believe It" is a stunning collection of alt-country, Americana or whatever else you want to call rootsy music these days.
