A COUPLE of issues ago The Lo Down reported that BARRY COWSILL came within a hair of losing his life in a motorbike accident. Of course Barry is completely over that now - and he is looking better than ever (if that's possible!). Now it seems it's BOB COWSILL's turn!! While Bob and his lovely bride NANCI were honeymooning in the Bahamas, in late June, he began to have pains in his tummy. Since the pain wasn't too serve, Bob did nothing about it until he got back to California - and had a severe attack of abdominal agony! After an examination at a doctor's office, he was rushed to the Behems Hospital in Glendale, California, for emergency surgery. What happened was - Bob's apprendix had become inflamed and had ruptured over two weeks earlier! The operation was a success and Bob is back with the Cowsill's group, playing and singing again. But if he had let it go a couple of days longer, he might not have made it through surgery! Wow - that was a close one!! And we're sure glad to have beautiful Bob back with us again!
By the by, if you're one of those 16 readers who mistakenly got the impression that the Cowsills were supposed to do The Partridge Family TV show but were rejected by Screen Gems - you're very, very wrong. The Cowsills were invited to be the start of The Partridge Family - as difficult as it was for BUD COWSILL (who acts as the family manager) to decline the invitation, he decided to say no because he has future plans for the Cowsill gang that would preclude being tied up from 6 A.M. to 7 P.M. five days a week (not to mention promotion work on weekends, etc.). At present the Cowsills are trying to decide which new record label to sign with. They have already recorded their next single and you should be able to pick it up in your neighborhood record store any day now. Aside from their singing career, each and every one of the Cowsills is branching out into acting and into solo TV appearances. For instance, SUSAN and BARBARA recently featured on VIRGINIA GRAHAM's TV show. JOHN is up for a starring movie role (more than any of the other Cowsills, he is dying to be an actor!), while BOB, PAUL and BARRY are also making individual TV appearances - not only as singers but as dramatic actors too. When it comes to The Partridge Family, the Cowsills have seen the show, are delighted with it and consider it particularly complimentary to them as a family. "It's really sort of like a tribute to us Cowsills," Bud says, "and we're very proud of the show and definitely please with it."
