Cowsills

"All of us Cowsills will be
on hand to greet you!"

HI – BOB COWSILL HERE! Not too long ago in 16 SPEC and 16 Magazine I promised that I’d introduce you to Nanci, my bride-to-be, just as soon as possible. Well, in the midst of all our wedding plans, we finally found a few minutes (and a photographer) so that we could have a picture snapped of Nanci and me together – and here it is! Now I want you to meet my future wife. Her full name is Nanci Roberts, but just about the time you read this – legally her name will be Nanci Cowsill. I met Nanci two years ago – shortly after we Cowsills moved to California. She and I were in the same French class at Hollywood College, and I guess you could say it was “love at first sight” – cos we’ve been going steady ever since!

OUR DREAM WEDDING

Every guy, at some time in his life, thinks about the kind of wedding he’d like. I’ve always wanted a big, traditional wedding with all the trimmings, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when I learned that Nanci wanted the same type of wedding I’d always dreamed about.

All our plans are made and we’re in the middle of addressing invitations to our friends and relatives. That’s why I’m writing this to you! You’re a very special friend to all of us Cowsills and I’d like you to share my wedding day with us too! Of course, I realize that it’s impossible for you to really be there in person – so I thought the next best thing would be to bring the wedding to you! As I write this, my wedding is still a few weeks away. But when you read this (right now – this very moment) – it will actually be my wedding day! So please say “yes” and come to my wedding! …

THE BIG DAY

Today is my wedding day – June 6, 1970! It’s customary for the groom (me) and the best man (my brother Paul) to arrive at the church early, so here we are at the Glendale Presbyterian Church – all dressed in our black tuxedos and pacing the floor happily but nervously. After a few minutes, my ushers arrive. You recognize most of them, cos my ushers include my brother Bill, Dick (my twin who is finally back from Viet Nam for good!), two more Cowsills – Barry and John – and Nanci’s brothers Kenny and Dean. I have to admit – they certainly make a good-looking group of guys! (Don’t you agree?!)

HERE COMES THE BRIDE!

The bride is always the last to arrive, as you know. We’ll be advised when she gets here, cos the organ will begin to play The Wedding March. Today that song (also known as here Comes The Bride) is my very favorite tune!

I take my place at the altar and suddenly - the music begins! The first person to walk down the aisle is a lovely little girl dressed in blue. She’s our junior bridesmaid, but you know her best as my sister Susan. Behind her, you see several couples – made up of my ushers and the rest of our beautiful bridesmaids, who are also dressed in long, blue growns. They are followed by my best man, Paul, and by the maid of honor, Marilyn (who is Nanci’s older sister). And then – all eyes are on Nanci, my beautiful bride-to-be, who within a matter of minutes will join me as we take our vows and become man and wife!

CHAMPAGNE RECEPTION

By 3:30 P.M., the entire wedding party and all of our guests are on the way to Nanci’s parents’ home in Glendale, California – where our champagne reception will take place. It’s a good thing the Roberts have a large backyard, cos we have about 400 guests! The garden of the Roberts’ home has been beautifully decorated and almost everywhere you look there’s food, champagne, lots and lots of colorful flowers, and yes – people!

I want my guests to mingle, so if you’re shy – just ask John or Barry to introduce you to the rest of the guests. In fact, you won’t even have to ask them. Knowing my family, one of them will take you by the hand and before you know it – you too will know everyone here! Don’t be surprised if you notice a trace of tears in the eyes of my mom, Susan, or Bill’s wife Karen. Like most girls, they usually cry at weddings – but since they’re happy tears, it’s O.K.! The rest of the afternoon is for fun. Nanci and I want all of our guests to enjoy themselves and have a wonderful time! I’m so glad you could come along – and thanks for letting me share this special day with you!

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

After the reception, Nanci and I will head for the Los Angeles Airport, where we’ll board a plane bound for the Bahamas for a two-week honeymoon. At press time, Nanci and I are so busy planning our wedding that we haven’t had time to find an apartment. We’d like to live in Santa Monica, California, and we hope to get all of this settled within the next few weeks.

I’ve received many letters asking if I’ll still be a member of the group after I’m married. I want to assure you that I will and that nothing will change insofar as the Cowsills are concerned. I truly love and sincerely enjoy entertaining you - and we Cowsills will continue to do so for as long as you want us to!
