Family Band: The Cowsills Story

Producer: Louise Palanker
Cinematographer: Ian Boyles
Editor: Bill Filipiak
Codirectors: Ian Broyle and Louise Palanker

Family Band: The Cowsills Story is a documentry that began when Louise Palanker went to see Bob Cowsill play at Pickwick's Pub on the night of John and Vicki's wedding. The whole family showed up and Louise just knew there was a story there to tell. Filming began in earnest September 2004 at "A Family Thing 2," the benefit for Billy's medical expenses that was held at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

Since that time the Cowsills - individually and as a group - have been interviewed and filmed. Family Band: The Cowsills Story is the result.

The film is described as "With hits including "The Rain the Park and Other Things," "Hair," and "Indian Lake," the Cowsill's soaring harmonies reached the top of the charts in the late 1960s. Comprised of a family of musically gifted children and their talented mom, the group was an entertainment phenomenon, appearing on the top variety series of the day including The Ed Sullivan Show and The Dean Martin Show and influencing a generation of musicians and artists; they were even the real-life inspiration for the hit series The Partridge Family. ... Family Band: The Cowsills Story chronicling the Cowsills' often tumultuous rise to fame and their enduring four-decade musical journey. "

The first producer hired on was Jeff Scheftel, but he appeared to be taking the film into undesirable grounds, so he was replaced.
