Milk Recipes





The "Awful, Awful" was a Cowsill's favorite treat!

The Cowsills were spokes-people for The American Dairy Association, as we all know. The following are some of the milk recipes put out in Cowsill brochures.

Mixed-Up Recipes ...

CHOCOLATE CHERRY

Blend together: 2 cups cold milk, 1/4 cup chocolate syrup, and 1/2 teaspoon cherry extract. Garnish each serving with a maraschino cherry. Makes 2 1/4 cups.

LIVELY LIME

In a mixing bowl or blender beat together 2 scoops vanilla ice cream and 3 tablespoons frozen concentrate for limeade. Gradually add 2 cups cold milk and green load color. Garnish each serving with a lime slice. Makes 2 3/4 cups.

COFFEE COOLER

Blend together 2 cups cold milk, 2 tablespoons, light brown sugar and 1 tablespoon instant decafinated coffee powder. Top each serving with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream. Makes about 2 cups.

LIME-GRAPE COOLER

In a mixing bowl or blender combine 2 scoops lime sherbert, 1 tablespoon instant imitation grape flavored drink mix powder (vitamin C enriched). Gradually add 2 cups cold milk. Top each serving with a scoop of lime sherbert. Makes about 3 cups.

RASPBERRY - ALMOND COOLER

In a mixing bowl or blender combine 2 scoops raspberry sherbert, 1/4 teaspoon almond extract. Gradually add 2 cups cold milk. Top each serving with a scoop of raspberry sherbert. Makes about 3 cups.

LEMON EGGNOG COOLER

Blend together 2 cups cold milk, 1/4 cup instant eggnog flavored beads and 2 tablespoons instant pink lemonade mix powder (vitamin C enriched). Garnish each serving with lemon peel. Makes about 2 1/4 cups.

PEACH SHAKE

In a mixing bowl or blender beat together 1/2 cup chopped canned peach slices, 1 tablespoon peach syrup and dash of mace. Add 2 scoops peach ice cream. Gradually add 2 cups cold milk. Garnish each serving with a peach slice. Makes about 3 3/4 cups.

SUPER STRAWBERRY

In a mixing bowl or blender beat together 1 cup sliced strawberries and 1 tablespoon sugar. Blend in 2 scoops strawberry ice cream; gradually add 2 cups cold milk. Garnish each serving with a scoop of ice cream and a strawberry. Makes about 3 cups.

BANANA-CHOCOLATE SHAKE

In a mixing bowl or blender mash 2 ripe bananas. Add 2 scoops vanilla ice cream and 1/4 cup quick chocolate flavor mix. Gradually add 2 cups cold milk. Garnish each serving with a banana slice. Makes 3 3/4 cups.

ORANGE - CINNAMON SHAKE

In a mixing bowl or blender soften 3 scoops vanilla ice cream. Add 2 tablespoons frozen concentrated orange juice and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon. Gradually add 2 cups cold milk. Place a cinnamon stick in each serving. Makes about 3 cups.

SPICY INSTANT SHAKE

In a mixing bowl or blender beat together 1 cup cold milk, 1 package vanilla instant milk shake mix, dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Garnish each serving with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream, a maraschino cherry and dash of nutmeg. Makes about 1 1/4 cups.

CHOCOLATE - MINT SHAKE

In a mixing bowl or blender beat together 1 cup cold milk, 1 package chocolate instant shake mix and a few drops peppermint extract. Top each serving with a scoop of peppermint ice cream. Makes about 1 cup.

SHAMROCK SHAKE
Yield: approx. 3 1/2 cups

2 scoops lime sherbert
2 cups milk
Green food color
Gradually blend milk into softened sherbert; add food color.

MAPLE MOUNTAIN COOLER
Yield: 2 cups
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons maple-blended syrup
1/2 teaspoon instant coffee powder
Blend together milk, syrup and coffee powder; stir to dissolve.

SOUTH OF THE "TEA" BORDER
Yield: 1 cups

2 cups milk
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 tablespoon instant tea powder
Blend together milk, sugar and tea; stir to dissolve.
Variation:
In place of brown sugar use 1 tablespoon maple-blended syrup

WILD RASPBERRY
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

2 cups milk
1/4 cup raspberry preserves
Red food coloring
Blend together 1/2 cup milk and preserves. Gradually blend in remaining milk and add food color.

MOCHA NOG
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

3 eggs
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon instant coffee powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups milk
In a mixing bowl or blender beat together eggs, sugar, coffee powder and vanilla: gradually add milk. Serve with whipped cream.

ORANGE NOG
Yield: 3 cups

3 eggs
3 tablespoons frozen concentrated orange juice
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups milk
Nutmeg
In a mixing bowl or blender, combine eggs, orange juice and sugar; blend thoroughly. Gradually add milk and mix until blended. Pour into glasses and garnish with nutmeg.

SURFER'S PUNCH
Yield: 3 quarts

1 1/2 quarts vanilla ice cream, softened
3 cups chilled pineapple juice
1/3 cup orange juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice
4 cups milk
In a mixing bowl, while beating softened ice cream, gradually add fruit juices, then milk; beat until frothy. Pour into chilled punch bowl.

PEANUT BUTTERSCOTCH SMOOTHIE
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

3 tablespoons instant butterscotch pudding mix
1 tablespoon peanut butter
2 cups milk
In a mixing bowl or blender beat together pudding mix, peanut butter and 1/4 cup milk. Gradually add remaining milk.

CONCORD COOLER
Yield: approx. 2 cups

2 cups milk
2 tablespoons frozen concentrated grap juice, thawed
Blend together milk and grape juice

MELLOW YESSOW SHAKE
Yield: approx. 3 cups

2 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 banana, mashed
3 tablespoons frozen concentrate for lemonade, thawed
2 cups milk
In a mixing bowl or blender beat together ice cream, banana and lemonade; gradually add milk.

MOBY GRAPE
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

2 cups milk
3 tablespoons instant vanilla pudding mix
3 tablespoons frozen concentrated grape juice, thawed
Red food color
In saucepan combine milk and pudding mix; heat to serving temperature. Gradually stir in grap juice; add food color. Beat with rotary beater.

HOT SPICE MILK
Yield: 2 cups

2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
In saucepan, combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmet; stir in milk. Heat to serving temperature; add vanilla. Beat with rotary beater.

BERRY INTERESTING
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

2 cups milk
1/4 cup strawberry syrup
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Red food color
In saucepan, combine milk and syrup; heat to serving temperature. Add extract and food color.

CRACKER-JACKY
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

2 cups milk
1/4 cup caramel sauce
Dash of salt
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
In saucepan combine milk, caramel and salt; heat to serving temperature. Add extract.

ORANGE MUFFLER
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

2 cups milk
1/4 cup instant vanilla pudding mix
3 tablespoons frozen concentrated orange juice, thawed
In saucepan conbine milk, pudding mix and orage juice; heat to serving temperature.

QUICKIE CAFE au LAIT
Yield: 2 cups

2 cups milk
4 teaspoons instant coffee powder
In saucepan combine milk and coffee powder; heat to serving temperature. Serve with whipped cream and chocolate curls.

HOT MEXICAN CHOCOLATE
Yield: 2 cups

1/4 cup instant chocolate flavor mix
2 tablespoons sugar
1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups milk
In saucepan combine chocolate mix, sugar and cinnamon; stir in milk. Heat to serving temperature.

CHOCO-PEANUT STEAMER
Yield: 2 1/4 cups

2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
2 cups milk
Dash of salt
In a saucepan, combine peanut butter and chocolate syrup; gradually add milk, then salt. Heat to serving temperature. Server with colored marshmallows.

FAITH, HOPE & CHARI-TEA
Yield: 2 cups

2 cups milk
2 tablespoons instant chocolate flavor mix
1 1/2 tablespoons instant tea powder
In saucepan combine milk, chocolate mix and tea powder; heat to serving temperature.

LIME COZY
Yield: approx. 3 1/2 cups

2 scoops lime sherbert
2 cups milk
Green food color
Gradually blend milk into softened sherbert; add food color.
