White Light Of Winter
(Susan Cowsill)

Whoooooo

White light of winter
On the Vermilion
It’ll blind you
Save your soul

White light of winter
One in a million
And it’s callin' your name
Telling you not to go - oh

White light of winter
Filling up my eyes
Shining through my heaven
Making the clouds cry

White light of winter
Lead me up river
Follow me closely
Makin’ sure that I get home

Home, home
Home
Home

White light of winter
Please answer my prayers
Listen like a mother
Floating in mid-air

White light of winter
Wraps you in its robe
And it overs you gently
While you follow you home

Home, home
Home, home

White light of winter
Swimming through blue skies
Drowning in silver
All of my insides

White light of winter
Your days are numbered
And you'll fit into summer
While I find a new home

Home, home
Home
Home, home

White light of winter
On the Vermilion
It’ll blind you
Even save your soul

Susan: Thank you. I have a record out. It's called Just Believe It. It's available over at the tent and I'll be over there after the set, if you'd like to come say hello. This song is the title cut from it and it's called "Just Believe It" and I actually still do.

Just Believe It
(Susan Cowsill)

Well I was thinkin’ about it on the way back home
The big old boulder has become a stone
I’m still traveling around life’s bend
And no hurry to get to the end, are you?

Well I clean my windows, now the streaks are gone
I can see for miles, not a road too long
I packed my bags and I’m on my way
Well I’m sorry but I can not stay
It’s true, I am movin' through.

The stars tracking us all the way
Things are changing here everyday
But I’m OK and the sky is still blue
The way I see it we make a choice
Take or leave it , just believe it
Tell me now what are you gonna do
I gonna believe it, won’t you?

Well I was thinkin’ about it just the other night
The big old anchor has become a kite
I'm easin’ back while it flies away
I don’t even hold the string today
It’s true, I’m sailing through.

The stars tracking us all the way
Things are changing here every day
But I’m OK and the sky is still blue
The way I see it we make a choice
Take or leave it, just believe it
Tell me now what are you gonna do?
I'm gonna believe it, won’t you?

You can’t stop sun, and you can’t stop trees
You can’t stop hurricanes, and you can’t stop me - ohhhh yeah

Well I was thinkin’ about it and I have to say
I’m still not sure just how I lost my way
Well all the same I’m not turnin’ back
These are better days. I won’t give them back
Would you? Well you’d be a fool.

And the stars tracking us all the way
Things are changing here every day
I’m OK and the sky is still blue
The way I see it we make a choice
Take or leave it, just believe it
Tell me now what are you gonna do?
I wanna believe it, don’t you?
And I gotta believe it, don't you?
I want to believe it, don’t you?

You know those stars are tracking us all the way
And things are changing here every day
Humm, uhh, ummm umm
Humm, ummm, ummm umm

Susan: Yeah !!!!!! Life is very good, is it not? Alright dee. We're going to do a cover song by Miss Lucinda Williams, cuz we can. And dedicating it to my brothers Barry and Bill.

Drunken Angel
(Lucinda William)

Sun came up was another day
The sun went down you were blown away
Why'd you let go of your guitar
Why'd you have to let it get that far
Drunken Angel

You could've held on to that long smooth neck
Let your hand remember every fret
Fingers touching each shiny string
You let go of everything
Drunken Angel

Drunken Angel
You're on the other side
Drunken Angel
You're on the other side

All of them followers well they'd cling to you
And they would hang around just to meet you
And some threw roses at your feet
Watched you pass out on the street
Drunken Angel

Yeah and they would feed you and pay off all your debts
Kiss your brow and taste your sweat
Write about your soul your guts
Criticize you and wish you luck
Drunken Angel

Drunken Angel
You're on the other side
Drunken Angel
You're on the other side

Well you were some kind of savior, singing the blues
You were derelict in your duct tape shoes
Your broken nose and your long brown hair
Acting like you couldn't care
Druken Angel

And the blood spilled out of a hole in your heart
it was over the strings of your guitar
The worn down places in the wood
That once made you feel so good

Drunken Angel
You're on the other side
Drunken Angel
You're on the other side
Drunken Angel
You're on the other side
Drunken Angel
You're on the other

And then the sun comes up and it's just another day
And the sun goes down and you're still blown away
Why'd you let go of your guitars
Why'd you have to let it get that far
Drunken Angel
Drunken Angel
Drunken Angel

Susan: So there. This is a very special Jazzfest for all of us and I'll probably say that six more times and you can quote me on it. I'd like to introduce my band. This is Chris Knotts over here on guitar and vocals. Russ Broussard in the back on drums and vocals and fabulous husbandship. Ray Ganucheau on bass over here and vocals. And Jansen Lohmeyer enjoying the show over to the left on keyboards. I think Chris is going to do a song for us now. Yes, that's what I'm talking about. And I do believe, in fact, that you are making a record yourself, is that correct sir?

Chris: This is true.

Susan: OK So look for him.

Nanny's song
(Susan Cowsill)

Susan: Umm this song is available on my CD Just Believe It available over at the tent where ya'll will go after my set. It's called "Nanny's Song" and it's about our lives - good, bad, or otherwise and our innate need to stay on the planet. And it will be for Nanny - let's see Nanny, Leslie, Mom, Dad, Bill, Barry and all ya'll extraterrestrial loved ones.

You fell in love across the backyard fence
You read your books behind closed doors
You lived and loved with some regrets
“I’d do it all again,” she said

When I turned around to go
I heard her singing sweet and low

Oho Oho I don’t want to leave this earth
Oho Oho I don’t want to let it go

Well he played the game, he played to win
We watched the game become a war
Now he’s fighting hard, he fights to live
And now they’re beating down his door

And when I ask here’s what he told
I want to see my son grow old

Oho Oho I don’t want to leave this earth
Oho Oho I don’t want to let it go
Oho Oho I don’t want to leave this earth

With all the endless summer days
Watching winter while it fades
Autumn’s sunlight through the trees
The scent of springtime on the breeze
It’s real life that sets you free
Can I take it all with me?

Watching the babies while they sleep
Chasing fireflies through the streets
And sleeping under star filled skies
That moment real love arrives
It’s not as if I didn’t know
I would have to let it go

Now I was born with a broken heart
It’s not a pretty way to start
And deep down inside I always knew one thing
Beautiful joy my life would bring

And when it’s my time to go
You’ll hear me singing sweet and low

Oho Oho I don’t want to leave this earth
Oho Oho I don’t want to let it go
Oho Oho I don’t want to leave this earth
No I don’t want to leave this earth

Susan: Thank you very much. Ahhh you stood up. Thank you .... Ray Ganucheau Ray and I and Russ and probably half of you out there were all in the Continental Drifters at one time. And Ray is just one of those folks. He's going to do a song for us. It's about flowers. But only when he's ready. So is it going to rain? (No) Hell no. (Who cares!) I was just going to say, 'do we care if it does?' No! Listen if they try to throw us out, let's like have a sit-in or something OK? So everybody sit down. I didn't say that, of course. It was my evil twin. (laughs) That's right. What a beautiful day. Thank ya'll for coming out to see me. Hey you guys! Hey John and Mee Maw and Paw Paw and you and you. Oh my gosh I didn't recognize you in that outfit.

Daffodilis
(Ray Ganucheau ???)

Do, do, do, do
Do,do, do, do, do, do
Do, de

Do, do, do, do
Do,do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, de

Daffodilis grow in the sunny part of my yard
They have none other chore or _______ my heart

Their color is yellow
But they ain't no cowards, no way

They seek no independance
They just live day by day

So don't worry about me
I'll be taking care of daffodilis

My girl she's perplexed
By my new found fascination with these flowers

I explain to her the answers
To all of her questions ________ garden

It helped her figure out me
She didn't call me no daffodilis

But they just keep on
For a bee at a time
Attending their leaves
Through the powers on high
Day by Day
They never question why

Do, do, do, do
Do,do, do, do, do, do
Do, do

Daffodilis grow in the sunny part of my yard
And none other chore or trapping that frame my heart

So don't worry about me
I'll be lying in those daffodilis

So don't worry about me
I'll be lying in those daffodilis

Do, do, do, do
Do,do, do, do, do, do
Do, do

Do, do, do, do
Do,do, do, do, do, do

Susan: Mr. Ray Ganucheau ya'll OK Yes. We're going to do a song from the Continental Drifters days. It's kind of like a Native American - Mojo song. Ya'll remember that right? Ya'll remember that. Actually it's not. It's called "The Rain Song" and everytime I sing it, it don't rain, so I thought we should do it. Even though we know it won't, and as we say we don't care if it does. How's it going boy-oys? Fantastic Alright, here we go.

The Rain Song
(Susan Cowsill and Vicki Peterson-Cowsill)

I don't think about us much anymore
And frankly the topic has become a bore
And you don't come up much in my conversations
And I don't think about you on vacation

When it rains
When it rains
When it rains
Well that's when I remember
And I remember you

Well I don't think about you when I'm sleeping
It doesn't even cross my dreamlike mind
And I don't think I see your face through the curtain
No, I don't even miss you half the time

When it rains
Oh when it rains
When it rains
Well that's when I remember
Yeah that's when I remember
And I do remember you
Well I remember you - oh

Oh rain, rain, go away
I'm doin' fine as long as you stay
Locked up inside your cloud of grey
Rain, Rain, Rain,
Rain, Rain, Rain, oh, oh, yeah, yeah

Yeah cuz when it rains
Oh when it rains
Oh when it rains
Well that's when I remember
Yeah that's when I remember
And I do remember you
Well I remember you
That's when I remember
The only time I remember
Well that when I remember you
That's when I remember you

Well that's when I remember
The only time I remember
And I remember you

Susan: Thank you very much. Speaking of rain, this is my Katrina song. Everybody's got one. I'm sure everyone of you do as well. Anyone here when it snowed a couple of years ago on Christmas Day? That was really cool, huh? It was a beautful day and quite peaceful and wonderfully serene. And then was anybody here when it rained in August? Good - a lot of evacuators, that's good. OK some of you didn't. But anyway, this song came to me the first week of evacuation just the contrast between those two weather systems that are complete coinsidental, by the way, because there is no global warming or anything. So, this song is calle "Crescent City Snow" and I dedicate it to you all.

Crescent City Snow
(Susan Cowsill)

I feel like a kite without a string
Only my tail to guide me
Just paper and sticks and tattered sheets
Waiting on a friendly wind

Hold all our memories in one hand,
So tightly you won’t let ‘em go
And in the other hand we pray
That the wind and the panic and the rain
Will all turn to a soft and quiet snow

A long time ago when I was young
I used to know everything
And now it’s today and I am sure
That I don’t know anything at all

Hold all our memories in one hand,
So tightly you can’t let ‘em go
And in the other hand we pray
That the wind and the panic and the rain
Will turn to a soft and quiet, gentle, peaceful snow

Yeah when the saints go marching in
I'll be walking to New Orleans
Eating beignets at Du Monde
Singing Joni at the Carrollton Station
Hanging out in Jackson Square
Twelve o’clock, I will meet you there
Down on Frenchman with Big Chief
Trying to find a place to be
Tailgating at the Dome
Man, I can't wait to go home.

Our precious hearts were all shattered
Scattered across the land
But I know that I am going back
To a place where I know who I am.

Holdin' all our memories in one hand,
So tightly you can not let ‘em go
And in the other hand we pray
That the wind and the panic and the rain
Will turn to a soft and quiet, gentle, peaceful
N O L A, Crescent City snow

Well it's three AM at the Circle Bar
Where the $^%$ did we park the car?
And it's six AM at the Christmas Lounge
Man we got a $%$# of a town
That town where your grandma tell my grandma
While they sit by the fire
And then they all go down to the Audubon Zoo
And they all ask for you
And they say 'Who da' 'Who da'
'Who da say they going to beat them Saints'
'Who da' 'Who da'
'Who da say they going to beat them Saints'
I did 'Who da' 'Who da'
'Who da say they going to beat them Saints'
'Who da' 'Who da' 'Who da'
'Who da oh Oh when those Saints come marching in
Oh when them Saints come marching in
Yeah when them Saints come marching in
Oh when them Saints come marching in
They're all going to be saying 'Who da' 'Who da'
'Who da say they going to beat them Saints'
I said a 'Who da' 'Who da'
'Who da say they going to beat them Saints'
I said a Who da' what? what?
will beat them Saints'

Isn’t this a perfect day
Everybody let me change lanes on the freeway
And I can smell the sugar in the air
My head is reeling and I hear the music everywhere

I know you know just what I’m talking about
And it’s familiar to you
If you remember what we can't live without
Then we’ll finally all dream the same dream - oh yeah

Well, isn’t this a perfect night
I can hear the thunder cracking over every streetlight
And all my friends are dancing in the street
We love t talk about it, think about it
It’s the real thing

I know you know just what I’m talking about
And it’s familiar to you
If you remember what we can't live without
Then we finally all dream the same dream

Oh and if you’re lost and you don’t understand
Don’t you worry baby
Take my hand
I’ll lead you to the promise land

Wll isn’t this the perfect day
Everybody let me change lanes on the freeway

I know you know just what I’m talking about
And it’s familiar to you
If you remember what we can't live without
Then we finally all dream the

I know you know just what I’m talking about
And it’s familiar to you
If you remember what we can't live without
Then we’ll finally all dream the same dream, yeah

I had a dream (All you need is love, all you need is love)
( all you need is love, all you need is love)
