In an age when hippies have the music field under their hard rock spell, who could have guessed that a wholesome, happy singing family from New England would catapult to the top of the Hot 100 List, captivate the millions who watch The Ed Sullivan Show and, in short, take the pop music spotlight all to themselves. That's precisely what The Cowsills have done.

It all started with a couple of guitars brought home from Spain by Bud Cowsill, an ex-Navy man. Two of his sons. Bill (18) and Bob (16), taught themselves how to play. Before long, Barry (11) joined them on bass and John (10) was thumping drums. 60 written songs, innumerable top engagements and TV appearances later, the boys have been joined by the whole family. But this recording features the original Cowsills performing their first big hits, "Party Girl" and "What's It Gonna Be Like," plus a collection of other distinctive Cowsill songs.

And, as a special added attraction, meet an exciting new group from Chicago, The Lincoln Park Zoo, making their album debut with two rocking numbers.

Hear the music of today — vital, alive and electric — as performed by two fine groups, one at the top of the show business ladder, the other on its first large steps to stardom. It's a mixing of rock, folk and psychedelic sounds that can't be topped on any turntable.
