The Dwight Twilley Band started as a duo. About 1967 Dwight Twilley and Phil Seymour met in Oklahoma and started playing and recording together. Next Bill Pitcock IV was added as a guitarist.
It must have been some time in the 1977-1978 time frame that Dwight met Susan and they began a long term romantic relationship. The first time a Cowsill was introduced into the band appears to be in 1978 with the recording of “Burnin' Sand” (To listen, see below) John took over the drummer spot and Susan sang backing vocals for nearly ten years.
Susan was praised for her harmonies on “Baby's Got The Blues Again” and John was described as “the best drummer Twilley had ever.” John sang on the song “Touchin' The Wind” on the Scuba Divers LP in 1982 and Susan can be heard on “Gave It All Up For Rock'n'Roll” on The Luck CD. (For a more complete list of Cowsill contributions, see below.)
John and Susan were part of a MTV show was recorded live at Rockabilly's North in Houston, and aired on July 23, 1982. Here are some video captures from that show.
On Dwight’s 1995 CD Tulsa, you can hear a song called “Miranda” which was written for none other than Susan’s little girl.
Dwight also did a duet with Kim Carnes on a version of “A Little Bit Of Love,” which he had written for Carnes, that was never released. Susan sang lead vocal on the demo he gave Carnes, and it’s this version of the song that you hear on Kim’s CD Voyeur. Apparently her record company didn’t realize it was Susan and not Kim !!!
One more Cowsill connection is that Dwight recorded a CD titled The Rain, The Park & Twilley.
