Sharon 19-Year-Old Busy With Studies, Songwriting
February 6, 1970 Youngstown Vindicator Youngstown, Ohio
New Generation Songwriter - Jim Pritchard of Sharon, Pa, strums his guitar as he composes a new song. The Penn State freshman began over a year ago to write songs for a new band and reached the heights recently by selling a work to the nationally popular Cowsills. He hopes to sell more to help himself through college.

What has been an avocation for 19-year-old James E. Pritchard Jr. of Sharon, just may turn into a vocation if he can sell his other songs to famous recording artists as he sold his first to the Cowsills.
A freshman journalism major at the Shenango Valley Campus of Pennsylvania State University, the youth recently sent five of the two dozen tunes he has written during the last two years to the Cowsills, a family which primarily sings upbeat folk and popular songs.
Within a week, the Cowsill replied with an offer to purchase a ditty called, "Hey Baby, What's Happening Here?"
. . .
The young college student may not be exactly Tin Pan Alley-bound but the Cowsills could have a big hit on their hands with "Hey Baby, What's Happening?" - a rhetorical question whose answer may spell an exciting future for Jim Pritchard.
