WORCESTER - Despite 45 years in professional baseball, one could easily conclude Dr. Charles Steinberg is a big record exec when walking into his private box at Polar Park.
The Worcester Red Sox president has a series of guitars hanging on the wall, including an unassuming, beat-up acoustic guitar which he has dubbed his "college guitar;" an pristine acoustic guitar signed by James Taylor, who sang the national anthem at the WooSox home opener; a "right-handed version" of Paul McCartney's Hofner bass; a John Lennon-style Rickenbacker; and a rare "Fenway Park 100th Year Anniversary" Fender Stratocaster, one of only six made to commemorate the milestone on April 20, 2012.
In addition to playing guitar and piano, Steinberg has written several songs played regularly at Polar Park, including "Woo Sox '21," "Seven Hills" and "Home of the Game" (all sung by Bob Cowsill of the Cowsills) and "That's When I Fell in Love With Baseball" (sung by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.).
