WILLIAMSBURG, Iowa – So what if the nearest ocean is hundreds of miles away? With Jan and Dean and enough sand to sink your toes in, a promoter says Williamsburg is the perfect spot for a huge beach party.
Steve Gander wants to bring the World’s Biggest Beach Party to his hometown, population 2,033, next summer.
He has proposed hauling 500 cubic yards of sand from both coasts and dumping it at the town square.
“It would put Williamsburg in a good light. If I didn’t think it would be successful, I would not present it to my hometown,” said Gander, also the founder of the Williamsburg-based World’s Toughest Rodeo.
Basic contracts have been worked out with Jan and Dean and the Ventures, who did the “Hawaii Five-O” theme, Gander said. Television game show host Bob Eubanks would be emcee.
