Cowsills

"Car show" would be an understatement if you're trying to describe Summer's Last Blast.

. . .

Past concerts have sportlighted Elvis Presley and Beatles tribute artists. This time around, the Cowsills will bring on the flower-power harmonies at 7:30 tonight.

The Cowsills, started by brothers Bill, Bob, John and Barry Cowsill in Newport, R.I., was the group that inspired the "Partridge Family" television show. The band was discovered by a "Today" show crew during the America's Cup races in 1965, and by 1967, had signed with MGM, added their mom Barbara, and released their first album with perhaps their most memorable hit on it, "The Rain, The Park and Other Things."

Then Paul Cowsill and his 7-year-old sister, Susan, joined the band after the first album.

"They (today's teens) think it's a new release," said Paul Cowsill of "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things" in an Aug 6 Times Record news article. "Teens across America are loving that song, and it was release in 1967. It's a funny thing. Maybe there's a connection, because we were so young when we did it."

He added of the group's sound, "It's almost timeless music."
