On Sept. 15, 1967, The Cowsills, played for a crowd of fans at downtown Norfolk’s Golden Triangle Hotel as part of a national tour for the band's upcoming album “The Cowsills,” recorded for MGM. Three members of the group are “returning home" — they were born in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital when their father was a chief boiler tender aboard the U.S.S. Law and Yosemite stationed in Norfolk between 1949-56. The group’s single “The Rain, The Park and Other Things” reached No.1 on music charts. The group went on to release several other hits and were regulars on music variety TV shows in the late '60s and early 1970s. The family was the inspiration for the hit television sitcom “The Partridge Family."
