Two Carmel High School students died when their truck went off a cliff near Santa Lucia on Highway 1 Tuesday night, officials reported. Dead were Ryan Field, 17, and Alexander Robbins, 16, school officials said.

They were returning from a surfing trip south of Big Sur with three other boys when their truck plummeted off a 200-foot cliff just south of Pitkins Curve around 8 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Three other occupants, Kenny Schneider, Colin Cowsill and Dane Anderson, survived. Schneider suffered minor injuries and the other two survivors were hospitalized at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

Grief counselors will be available today to talk to students and parents at the Carmel Youth Center at Fourth and Torres street from 3 to 6 p.m.
