Years later, the Beach Boys have still got it.

Mike Love, frontman and an original member of The Beach Boys, lets the crowd do the singing during a cover of Surf City. Mike later joked that the famous lyric, "two girls for every boy," might hit a little close to home here in Utah.

I remember seeing The Beach Boys in concert back in the late ‘70s or early ‘80sat the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s beach bandstand. My folks were big fans, and since that day so am I. The Beach Boys lineup has changed quite a bit since then, but it’s still the quintessential American concert experience.

While Love’s performance definitely drove the act, special note should be made of Scott Totton’s spot-on surf guitar licks, Randy Kirsch’s soaring falsetto vocals and Scott (Note: yes this is a mistake) Cowsill’s moving lead vocals on several songs, including covering some verses on songs that Mike Love otherwise led. The lead vocalists transitioned seamlessly, with Love still playing the crowd as Cowsill took notes that would have been dangerously high for Love.
