Sue Ford started the all-female Pink Slip specifically to ride in Muses 11 years ago because, she said, she wanted to put some rock ’n’ roll into the Mardi Gras parades. “I love ‘Mardi Gras Mambo,’ but I just got tired of listening to it,” Ford said.

The band includes horns, bass, guitar, keyboards and two singers, including Susan Cowsill, who has rocked Muses with Pink Slip for the past five years.

The band’s music changes every year. “This year, we’re going to be ‘Soul Train,’?” Ford said. Some of the extremely danceable early-70s hits bound to get parade-goers shimmying on the sidewalk include “Dancing in the Streets,” “War,” and “Chain of Fools” Muses rolls Uptown tonight, right before Chaos.
