The Burners - Billy Cowsill adds sizzle to red-hot Calgary rockers
October 13, 1989 The Ottawa Citizen Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Bob Brennan had been exposed to Billy Cowsill’s musical legacy after rooting through the bargain-basement record stores. There aren’t too many albums by The Cowsills floating around these days.
When Neil MacGonnigal, the manager of Brennan’s band The Burners, set up a meeting to see if Cowsill might consider producing an independent EP, Brennan said the chemistry was just right.
“We’re in awe of him. He’s pretty cool,” Brennan said in a phone interview, discussing the Calgary band’s collaboration with Cowsill on the EP released this year, titled Low Tech/High Torque. Cowsill ended up adding vocals and some guitar to the six tracks during the recording sessions in Edmonton.
