Other calamities of man and nature long ago pushed Hurricane Katrina off the front page, but five years later New Orleans and its residents are still grappling with the effects. One of the grapplers is Susan Cowsill, '70s teen idol and present day roots-rock siren, who is touring behind a solid new album called "Lighthouse" (Threadhead Records). Cowsill and Russ Broussard will be in Chapel Hill on Thursday for a Katrina-related discussio program at the Center for the Study of the American South. And at 8:30 p.m., they'll perform with Cowsill's old Continental Drifters bandmate Peter Holsapple at Jessee's, 401 E. Main St., Carrboro. Suggested donation is $5.
