B.J. Thomas and The Cowsill will appear as the second special attraction this summer at Blossom Music Center next Wednesday, June 30, at 8:30 p.m. This program is the first of many this summer booked primarily for youth, and with the great success of both Thomas and The Cowsills in recordings, the appeal may go beyond the usual school and college age cutoff date.
. . .
The Cowsills began their career at home as family amusement. They are truly a family and Cowsill is the name. The family consists of seven children, and five participate in the musical activities. Two boys started it all with guitar playing, and soon two more brothers joined the combo on drums and bass guitar. Needing a female voice in the group they tapped mother Barbara Cowsill for a demonstration recording of “The Rain.” The choice was a happy one and MGM Records came up with a contract and issued “Rain,” which sold a million copies. Their first album was “The Cowsills,” followed by “We Can Fly” and “Indian Lake” and their biggest winner, “Hair.” The Cowsills have appeared extensively on network television and have added a fresh look and sound to the night club circuit. They have also been seen frequently on television in commercials promoting the virtues of heavy milk consumption, a product very compatible with the fresh scrubbed looks of The Cowsills.
Tickets for the June 30 Blossom special with B.J. Thomas and The Cowsills are priced from $3.00 to $6.0 for reserved seating in the Pavilion and are on sale at the Blossom Box Office, Severance Hall, all Burrows Stores and in Akron at Mayflower Ticket Bureau, 289 South Main Street
