This year’s Fall Festival concert had one of the best turnouts ever. After the doors had opened a swarm of eager Cowsill fans and students of TSC massed inside much greater than expected. People were still filling the Angola High School gym even after the concert began. A shortage of seating arose and many, but not reluctant listeners came forward to sit in front of the stage on the floor.
J. Underwood, disc jockey for WOWO, was the M.C. and opened up with a little pre-concert entertainment consisting of a few jokes and stories that set everybody up for the concert. The Cowsill family started the music almost immediately upon touching the stage and played just about continuously until their closing song. The first half of their concert was depicted mostly by a type of bubblegum music and some of their million sellers – “The Rain, the Park and Other Things”, “We Can Fly”, “Indian Lake”, and “Hair.”
At intermission the Fall Festival Queen Vickie Morris, and her court were named and crowned. After the break the Cowsills swung into a different style than what they were previously noted for – Rock and folk. Joh, 14 years old, did a beautiful rendition of Johnny Cash and will be probably coming into more prominence in the coming years. The little girl, Susan, 11 years old, came out with a surprisingly fantastic voice and will also become more important to the Cowsills in the future.
Their mother’s few solos also were hits, especially with Peter, Paul and Mary’s “The Cruel War”. Many of the songs in the second half will be on their next album being released in January. The Cowsills have a tremendous amount of variety if given a change can be a really outstanding group.
