The Anaheim Angels felt Brendon Cowsill was a third baseman initially, drafting him at that position in 1993.
After a couple of years in rookie ball, it was time for a stint as a relief pitcher.
All along, maybe it's being a starter that's the 23-year-old Califorian's ultimate destiny.
"I don't ever want to have to go back to the pen," Cowsill said after his four-hit shutout helped the Cedar Rapids Kernels end a five-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Burlington at Memorial Stadium.
Cowsill doesn't have to work about relieving anytime soon. The Wednesday masterpiece was not only the right-hander's first professional shutout but his first complete game as well.

Cowsill actually began this season in Cedar Rapids as a setup man, but was promoted after five appearances to Lake Elsinore. He faltered there as a starter and reliever and was sent back to the Kernels in July.
He has flourished as a regular member of the rotation and now has a 5-2 record and 2.69 ERA. He has given up just 49 hits in 63 2/3 innings.
"When they told me I was coming back down here to start, I was so happy," Cowsill said. This is only my third year of pitching. I haven't ever had over 100 innings before. Now I do because I'm starting."
