Newport, R.I. (AP) – A member of the Cowsills singing family has been sentenced to a year’s probation on a charge of frequenting a narcotics nuisance. Richard J. Cowsill, 22, also received concurrent probation terms of one year Monday after pleading no contest to charges of possessing stolen goods and driving a car without the consent of the owner.
Cowsill, former road manager for the singing group, was arrested last Oct. 25 at an apartment here along with Pamela L. Wendur, 20, of Newport.
Both were charged with maintaining a narcotics nuisance, and Cowsill also was charged with possession of stolen goods totally $2,100 and driving a car without the consent of the owner.
Both drug charges were amended in District Court to frequenting a narcotics nuisance and the two defendants were placed on one year’s probation.
The stolen goods charge against Cowsill was reduced to goods totally $490, thus changing the offense from a felony to a misdemeanor.
