The popular Cowsills and Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. shared the program at a Hays Chamber of Commerce general membership breakfast this morning.
A turnout of more than 80 in the Coronet Room at the First National Bank building heard the Cowsills sing a Christmas number and listened to Delos Stephens, district manager of Southwestern Bell, explain the new Direct Distance Dialing service.

Jim Reardon, who operates a local entertainment booking agency, introduced the Cowsills, the nation’s leading entertainment family which will present a concert Wednesday evening at Sheridan Coliseum. Reardon said the group has had four records that have sold a million copies each. The Cowsill will be featured on the Kraft Music Hall television program on Christmas Eve.
Bud Cowsill introduced the members of the group, which includes four Cowsill sons, one daughter and Mrs. Cowsill.
The youngest member of the family, Susan Cowsill, then assisted Stephens in explaining the Direct Distance Dialing operation, which goes into effect in Hays at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.
