New Orleans musicians Susan Cowsill and her husband Russ Broussard are putting their performance where their hearts are Sunday in Kewaskum, and village resident John Kenworthy could not be happier.

Cowsill and Broussard and the rest of the Susan Cowsill Band will perform a benefit concert for Brick by Brick starting at 7 p.m., Sunday, at the new Kewaskum Theater in Kewaskum High School.

"They'll play until they're done," said Kenworthy, who met Broussard and Cowsill through the first fundraiser he organized for Brick By Brick a year ago.

"Last year, I knew I couldn't get any celebrity to perform for us, so I started calling around to get (well-known people) to give us comments we could use in a presentation we put together. Russ Broussard gave us a nice comment. Russ kept calling back offering ideas, 'Did you try this' or 'How about trying this.' We just started a friendship from that. He's a drummer and has a life-long interest in African drums and he and Susan just developed a real passion for our cause."

Enough of a passion that both Broussard and Cowsill agreed to join the Brick By Brick for Tanzania Board of Directors, said Kenworthy, who also is president of the Kewaskum School Board.

"We're really blessed to have them on board," he said.

By the way, Cowsill was the youngest member of The Cowsills, a California family pop band that produced several hits in the '60s. The family was the inspiration for a later TV show, "The Partridge Family."

Singer, musician and songwriter Susan Cowsill is more into country rock these days.
