Services were held here yesterday for Barbara C. Cowsill, a member of the Cowsills singing group in the late 1960s.

Mrs. Cowsill, 56, died Thursday at her Tempe home after a long illness, family members said.

With her daughter and five of her sons, Mrs. Cowsill teamed up as a singing group while the family was living in Middletown, R.I.

Between 1967 and 1970, the Cowsills recorded several hit songs including "The Rain, the Park and Other Things," "Indian Lake," "We Can Fly," plus the title song for the controversial rock musical "Hair."

The group, which earned three gold records, also performed on several late-night talk shows and had their own television special in 1968

Mrs. Cowsill moved to Arizona from California three years ago.

Survivors include her husband, William "Bud"; a daughter, Susan; six sons, William, Richard, Robert, Paul, Barry and John; her mother; five sisters; three brothers; and 11 grandchildren.
