The Cowsills, in town recently, have signed a contract with Ed Sullivan for 10 appearances over two years. Their first appearance will be Sunday night.

The Cowsill - Barbara and Bud, retired U.S. Navy petty officer and their seven children - live in a 22-room house in Newport, R.I. Until their recent record success, "Rain, the Park and Other Things," they couldn't afford to completely furnish it.

Their Sullivan contract provides that they be paid not only in cash, but in appliances like washer, dryer, dishwasher and a four-slice toaster.
