The Continental Drifters’ personnel roster reads like a musical wish list, and this all-star band’s output rocks even better than promised.
Continental Drifters plays at 10 p.m. Friday at Hal & Mal’s in Jackson. Cover is $5. Don’t miss it if your ears need a treat.
The Drifters pulls together Dream Syndicate bassist Mark Walton, Peter Holsapple (The dBs, Hootie and the Blowfish), Susan Cowsill (the Cowsills), Vicki Peterson (the Bangles), Robert Mache from the Steve Wynn band and ex-Bluerunner Russ Broussard.
Their 1994 self-titled debut was a critical success, and folks here still remember a hopping Jackson show back then.
The 1998 Vermillion was named in the top of Rolling Stone Readers’ and Critics’ polls.
The New Orleans-based band is a labor of love and a creative fountain for its members, who all have a democratic stake in the process for songwriting to performing.
Embodying all the best traditions of great rock, it’s a joy to see. And an even better one to hear.
Sound good? You bet.
