To the Editor:
After reading Jim Knippenberg's review of the Cowsills' concert I must disagree completely.
I have watched the Cowsills grow and listened to their music as it has progressed. When I attended their concert I saw a fairly large group of dedicated rock fans, as well as the bubblegum set, as he called them. The rock fans had patiently awaited the day this group would come to town. It was their day, took but tomorrow they would be devoted to the "Kill Knippenbert" campaign because:
Jim called them a "relatively small but incredibly vocal crowd," and those in the crowd were wondering if he listened to the music and grooved with it, or just sat there and reviewed the audience . . . it seemed to be the latter.
Jim said "The crowd was young, very young about five years younger, on the average, than the usual concert crowd." What has he got against teenagers? He's practically one himself, so he shouldn't know them!
He seemed to think the fans "stormed the stage." Not one person, with the exception of the personnel connected with the show, touched the stage!
He also seemed to think there is a law connected with taking pictures. If so, he should tell us about it.
He also talked of "unbelievable distractions - people throwing love notes, cards, and gifts." I saw this also, during the 15-minute intermission. Of course, a few girls undoubtedly were love-stricken and did these things, but he shouldn't blame the entire audience for their actions.
All in all, his review was more of the audience than the group, which was very unfair to the group. Next time, please Jim, watch the show!
Thank you,
Nancy Kern
