Refreshingly delightful! This description epitomizes the atmosphere projected by the Cowsills on their pilot show, "A Family Thing."
Buddy Ebsen introduced and narrated the special, but not in the ordinary, cold fashion typical of narrators. The Cowsills drew Buddy into the family, and included him in different parts of the musical. Because the group did not simply present numbers to an audience, but instead worked songs into a half-hour skit depicting life in the Cowsill home, the viewer naturally felt a warmth which is sometimes missing from many specials.
Being the only two girls, mom, Barbara, and "baby," Susan, stole the show, but the talents of the men of the family were enhanced rather than detracted from by the outstanding vivacity of the women.
Anyone who watched, and, thus, took part in this "Family Thing" will readily agree with the Cowsills when they sing "We Can Fly."
