The Continental Drifters will be performing tonight at Grant Street. According to their press release, the Drifters include former members of the Cowsills (remember the 60’s? and “Hair, grow it, show it, long as I can grow it – my hair”), the Bangles, the dB’s and Dream Syndicate.
Their debut album which is self-titled, shows th3ee influences. We hear pop, soft rock, and folk influences, especially in “Invisible Boyfriend.”
There’s also a little country involved if you listen closely to “Highway of the Saints,” you might be misled into believing it’s been recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival
In fact, the Continental Drifters sound like they were fit better in the 90’s or 70’s than the 90’s, largely due to their emphasis on the message and their beautiful harmonies.
This is a top-notch release, with stellar singles such as “I Can’t Make It Alone” and “Mixed Messages.” Their concert tonight should also be a winner. Tickets are $6, with doors opening at 9 p.m. The opening band will begin performing at 10p.m., followed by the Continental Drifters.
