By way of contrast, the Cowsills have cut an excellent album, "II x II," which has not yet found its way to the charts. This family group is wholesome and cute. They offer nothing heavy, or even inspiring, but their arrangements are flawless and lively, their vocals are competent and their harmony is superier.
Taking notes on this group is hellish. What do you say? Their songs are variously pretty, nice, pubescent, slow, dumb and fun. The last song, "Father," is a tribute to Papa Cowsill. Mama sings a nice lead on "I really want to know you." On "Signs" the group shows tremendous talent and almost sounds like the Guess Who. Throughout the album, the Cowsills have what Rodgers (Note: speaking of Kenny Rodgers reviewed above) seeming lacks: sincerity.
