From out in back to up in front goes Dry Dock County, a new name with an album by that title on Mercury (SR 61286). These five studio musicians wearied of backing up other fellows and struck out on their own in a very wise move.

Musically their sound is very nify, featuring a solid bass and drum beat line that shows strong inclinations to pulse into progressive rock; vocally the harmony work is very smooth and too slick (they back up The Cowsills and some of it wore off) with a desire to woo the top 40 bubble gum crowd. Their chances are best with the latter, but they've got enough talent that they might end up appealing to both

The oldie but goodie stream of releases continues, with MGM adding The Mothers of Invention (GAS 112) to their Golden Archives Series line that already includes Tim Hardin, Eric Burdon and The Cowsills, Connie Francis, Righteous Brothers and Judy Garland to drop a few names seldom seen in this column).
