The Cowsills, well-known singing group, will appear here for a program next Saturday evening, Oct 30, under sponsorship of the Snyder High School Choirs.
The group will stop off here just long enough to put on a program from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Tickets are priced at $2 each and they may be purchased from Snyder High School Choir members, or they may be purchased at the door on the night of the performance.
The Cowsills, who have appeared on many television shows, also have appeared at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas and at the San Remo Musical Festival in Italy. They are equally well-known for some of the television commercials in which they have appeared.
Their TV appearances have included all of the night talk shows.
Known as one of the most unique entertaining groups in the country, they began their career at home as a family amusement and nothing more. Like the seven dwarfs, they whistled while they worked. They all worked while the father, Bud Cowsill, was away from home serving in the U.S. Navy, finally retiring after his 20-year hitch.
The mother, Barbara, had her hands full with her seven children to raise, but all pitched in and helped.
Bob and Bill started the musical ball rolling by taking up the guitar at an early age. Harry (note: article says Harry not Barry) soon joined them on drums, later switching to the bass guitar when John became the drummer. The quartet performed for many functions, but in 1967 they decided they needed a female voice in the group, turning immediately to Mother Barbara. Next to join the group was young Susan Cowsill, and then finally, Paul Cowsill who had been working behind the scenes. Bill recently left the group to produce records and continue his career as a single act and Dick, Bob’s twin, has never been a member of the singing group, and has lived in Newport, R.I., since his return from Vietnam.
