Among the other new faces displayed recently on NBC are those of the singing Cowsill family - a mother and six of her seven children. Father Cowsill can't carry a tune but he did manage to raise $100,000 among friends and neighbors to sponsor their recording career. Their TV debut was a curious combination of homely, but wholesome young people with a good musical sound, colorfully staged.
Mother Cowsill seems to be not quite with it - in a Lawrence Welk sort of way - but millions of mothers will probably understand her pleasant bewilderment and with the proper handling her "My God what am I doing here?" expression could make her the surprise comedy hit of the year.
