Singer Susan Cowsill retired her "Covered in Vinyl" series -- in which she and her band "covered" a classic album in its entirety -- in February after re-creating more than 40 albums in six years at Carrollton Station. She and her husband/drummer, Russ Broussard, said at the time they would revive the series only for special occasions.
The Saturday, May 7 edition of "Covered in Vinyl," staged during the New Orleans Jazz Fest, certainly qualifies as special.
The Susan Cowsill Band will perform two albums, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's "Deja Vu" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Creedence Gold." A total of 19 musicians will participate, including members of The Cowsills family band, Cowsill's former Continental Drifters bandmate and current Bangle Vicki Peterson, Syd Straw, Washboard Chaz, Jesse Moore and Johnny Sansone.
The evening kicks off at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday with a short set by Alexis Marceaux. Next up is a few songs by the Psycho Sisters (Susan Cowsill and Vicki Peterson), followed by a short set by the Susan Cowsill Band. The Cowsills will do a few of their hits, before launching into the albums -- CSN&Y, followed by CCR.
The full roster of participants includes:
Vocalists: Susan Cowsill, Bob Cowsill (The Cowsills), John Cowsill (The Beach Boys, The Cowsills), Vicki Peterson Cowsill (The Bangles), Syd Straw, Johnny Sansone, Caleb Guillotte, Alexis Marceaux, Jesse Moore, Alexandra Scott and Washboard Chaz.
The band: Russ Broussard, Sam Craft, Jack Craft, Derrick Anderson (The Bangles), Pete Winkler, Jimmy Robinson, Janson Lohmeyer and Mary Lasseigne.
