Rockin' with the hits, dubious or otherwise

It's been a while since I listened to top 40 radio.

The late 1970s and 1980s have been pretty rough on us folks who like to think of music as filling a social need beyond background chatter or stupid forms of dancing, even if the need is laughter or mild thought.

But there are those voices in the wilderness even in teh music field, past and present. And they are in my personal record collection.

There are lots of wisdom nuggets and great achievements to be had in these LPs, so I've created awards for outstanding efforts within my personal collection. Here they are (dates estimated). Let's rock:

. . .

Album I'm most ashamed to own: "Best of the Cowsills," 1968.

. . .

Most unbearable song to listen to at any time: (Tie) "Black Angel's Death Song," Velvet Underground, 1965; "Indian Lake," The Cowsills, 1968

. . .

Band most damaged by success of the Cowsills: (Tie) The Archies; 1910 Fruitgum Company

Band least damaged by success of the Cowsills: (Tie) The Doors; Love; Derek & The Dominos; The Band; The Rolling Stones; The Who; The Beatles; The Mothers of Invention

. . .
