When magazine staffer Gary Johansen motored out to Kearney to cover the Cowsills he arrived early, checked into a motel and promptly fell asleep. He awoke with jump. It was 7 p.m - an hour to show time.
He hustled over to the campus, fearful he'd be late for his appointment. No problem. The Cowsills didn't arrive themselves until just an hour before the curtain. After a feverish hour, the Cowsills were ready to go onstage and Mr. Johansen had his story.
