Although he was running late and the time for leaving Montgomery was getting uncomfortably near, singing star Eddy Arnold still took time to great personally most of the hundreds of fans who stopped backstage Sunday evening to meet him.

Arnold, joined by the singing Cowsill family, entertained a Garrett Coliseum crowd estimate by police at 3,000.

He commented that crowds are always small on Sundays and that he usually doesn’t like to perform then.

During the reception, the Cowsill family sang “We Love You, Eddy” to the tune of the theme from “Bye, Bye, Birdie.” Arnold broke into a broad smile and said, “You make me sad.”
