The Cowsills
Back in the 1960s, four brothers wanted to be The Beatles. Instead,
they formed a band called The Cowsills.
Hailing from Rhode Island, the Cowsills brothers - Bill, Bob, Barry
and John - showed an early interest in music. Bill and Bob taught
themselves to play guitar while the brothers developed harmonized vo-
cals. As children, they performed at school church dances. Later, they
got a regular job on Bannisters Wharf in Newport.
By 1967, the band had grown to include siblings Susan and Paul as
well as the children's mother, Barbara. The Cowsills signed to MGM
Records in 1967.
According to the group's website, The Cowsills enjoyed great success
during the late '60s and early '70s. The band appeared on television
shows and even hosted their own TV special. When they were ap-
proached to do their own television series, they declined - but only be-
cause the producers had already signed an actress to play the mother.
That series - partially inspired by The Cowsills - was "The Partridge
Family."
Currently, Bob, Paul and Susan continue to perform several shows per month as The Cowsills.
