Recently a single came out by a new group that is already gaining national prominence. "The Rain, the Park and Other Things," by the Cowsills, is on the climb and rightly so. The group is an unusual one composed of an entire musical family. Usually a group of this sort only has one strong member, but this group really seems to have it.
On an album soon to be released on MGM label, (E-4498), which is simply entitles "The Cowsills," the group shows what they can do. The opening song, "Rain..." has been heard, and it is a fitting beginning for them. Their arrangements are very melodic, but the songs tell a story that is very pretty, and so reminiscent of life. The second song on the album, entitled "Pennies," talks of saving pennies for a rainy day and has an up tempo with a strong beat. "La Rue Du Soleil" has a certain rhythm to it that should appeal to both young and old alike. It seems to just go rolling along, gently and happily. I like this tune. It's very catchy.
Some Questions
"Thinkin' About The Other Side" is next and it is a very interesting number. If you listen closely, you will hear questions asked that I'm sure everyone at some time has been curious about. "Dreams of Linda" is a pretty thing telling of the dreams of youth. Concluding the side is a song entitled "River Blue," which begins with a bang, has the typical rock quality that has become a part of our music and tells the story of the travels of a river. It's good.
Side two opens with "Gettin' Into That Sunny, Sunny Feelin' Again," a happy tune as the title implies. The Material used on this album is quite good, as they continue to tell story after story that everybody should be able to relate to.
"That's My Time of Day" is next and it too has a happy sound and expresses a feeling many people have, "Troubled Roses" is next and it tells another kind of story, but it too maintaines the bounce the group seems to have. "Is Anyone There?" is a slower thing, pretty and nice to listen to, should do real well if they make a single out of it. "How Can I Make You See" goes back to the faster beat, but they do it in such a way that you really like it. "I'm The One You Need" is the closing song, and it too is in excellent taste. The things this group does are all of real good quality, and we shall be hearing from them quite often, this you can be sure of.
