It's not often that the opportunity presents itself to accuse wideawake British pop fans of allowing their American counterparts to steal a march on them in matters of music appreciation.
. . .
While the British remain stuck with the do-it-yourself music of the beat groups, the Americans are racing ahead into new and exciting concepts of pop by way of such teams as Harper's Bizarre, the Cowsills and Fifth Dimension.
. . .
The Cowsills are in a similar groove, with the four brothers and their mother blending happily and tunefully on a recent MGM LP and showing just why their singles are instant chart material in the States.
They are hoping, once again, to win the approval of the tin-eared locals with "In Need of a Friend." And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the success of this new single.
