Vicki Peterson, of the Bangles:

Half the time, the Velvets were trying to sound like the Cowsills and I found that very inspiring. No, seriously, I do really like their pop songs - they had such diversity. It's weird, because they were writing from experience. I took this tape of theirs on tour once. One side was the harder songs, one side was the soft, pop songs. I like listening to the way they put words together. It made a good soundtrack for driving across America.
