Former Winnipeg singer/guitarist Jeffrey Hatcher disappeared about two years ago, right around the time he was expected to release an album with his band The Big Beat.
Now he has resurfaced in Vancouver, marching steadily toward yet another record deal with still another band.
This time it’s call The Blue Shadows, and it’s being handled by Larry Wanagas, best known for managing k.d. lang.
Cowsills
A gifted writer of pop songs, Hatcher partner this time out is Billy Cowsill, former guitarist and lead vocalist with ‘60s American group The Cowsills. Best known for the theme from the hippie rock musical Hair, The Cowsills were the family band that served as the model for TV’s Partridge Family.
“It was Larry’s idea for us to start writing together,” Hatcher, 35, said from Vancouver. “We started playing live and gradually added our originals to the show.”
It caught on, and the band played industry showcases last fall in Toronto and Nashville. They don’t have a deal yet, but Hatcher said, “We expect to record the first album over the winter.”
