For one Los Angeles family the name “Stogel” on the list of victims was a macabre repetition of history.

Leonard Stogel, the Malibu rock promoter of the California Jam and manager of such groups as the Cowsills and Sam the Sham, died on the Los Angeles-bound American Airline flight, the worse in U.S. history.

So did his parents, 17 years ago in the crash of a Los Angeles-bound American Airlines flight from New York, then classified as the worst in U.S. history.

“It’s unbelievable; lightning has struck twice,” said Stogel’s brother Stanley.
