Bud Cowsill, father of the Singing Cowsill Clan, phoned to disclose he's more than a little upset at MGM record proxy Mike Curb, particularly undone about Mike's statement to me that the Cowsills have pretty much had it, have ridden the crest of their popularity.
True, eldest son Bill is no longer with the group following the family squabble last winter. But, Papa Bud made it clear, the gang's surviving professionally without him. He said the family has been packing 'em in during their 90-day personal appearance tour around the country which winds up in November in Dayton. Not only that, he asked me to inform Curb, but they've been making plenty of guest appearances and are signed for a Far east tour in February.
And in one final pot shot at MGM records, with whom the Cowsill recently severd connections, Bud said that the only reason the family hasn't signed with a new label is because they've been having trouble deciding which deal to take. Three different companies are after them, he said. Ridden the crest, indeed, is his retort to Curb.
