Not until Gary Lewis found himself in Vietnam holding a rifle instead of a set of drumsticks did he fully appreciate the immense success he had enjoyed as a rock 'n' roller.

I opened a music store (where he gave guitar and drum lessons), hung out in Tulsa for a while (with Leon Russell, who wrote and arranged many of the Playboys hits), formed a band called Medicine with Bill Cowsill (of the Cowsills) and basically was just like a rich drifter."
