GREEN BAY, WI - AUGUST 1, 2007 - The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have selected Susan Cowsill’s “Palm of My Hand” as their August Franciscanized World song, available as a free download at www.fscc-calledtobe.org/living.asp.
The singer/songwriter made her initial mark on popular culture at the tender age of eight with The Cowsills, the 60s family pop group, scoring Top Ten singles “The Rain, the Park and Other Things” and “Hair”. During Susan’s decade with roots-pop supergroup The Continental Drifters, she won the hearts of discerning listeners with her impassioned vocals and personally-charged songwriting. Cowsill's vocal talents have beautifully supported recordings from artists as diverse as Dwight Twilley, The Smithereens, Nanci Griffith, Carlene Carter and Jules Shear, while her compositions have been covered by The Bangles and Hootie and the Blowfish.
Recently, she won the "Best Roots Rock" category at the 19th Annual Big Easy Awards held in New Orleans.
Of “Palm of my Hand”, she reflected that it “came from a long journey of searching for happiness, love and inner peace. A long journey which brought me right back to...’Now’, which has been here all along. We often search and search for something that is right in front of us, or inside of us.”
The Franciscanized World page and the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity were recently featured in Time Magazine’s profile of Catholic religious orders innovatively utilizing the Internet. The site invites visitors see the world as Saints Francis and Clare did - realistically, compassionately, finding good and holy possibility in the substance and culture of everyday life. Each month, specially selected songs and images are chosen for spiritual reflection from particular young women discerning their call in life.
